Portfolios and cover letters are important in writings, especially for the readers. Portfolios are visual assortments of your work experience and samples of it to show your accomplishments and capabilities. A cover letter is more of an introduction to who you are and is more personal. In a writing by Saint Leo’s students, they say how introductions are an important part of writing to give the readers an understanding of what they’re going to read. In the reading from Saint Leo’s University, the writer explains John Swales creation of the CARS model and its effectiveness in writings. This model is when the author uses moves, which means going through each section of the writing to give the reader a thorough and effective start to the reading. Having an organized and structured paper benefits not only the readers who are better comprehending the text, but also you as a writer. The CARS model consists of three moves to help break down the paper and have a better layout of the work written. Another major thing when writing is the stance. This is a technique constructed by Ken Hyland, where there’s four subheadings so that the claims in the text are presented in more of an opinion than a fact. Writing with stance uses more emotions and connects the reader to the text more. Both concepts of CARS and stance help to enhance writing, and with cover letters and portfolios, it can better detail them with breaking everything down and using a sense of emotion.
