Feedback’s Effect on the Revision Process

Revision is a key part of the writing process for everything, while it can just be a quick skim back at what you wrote before a submission, we probably all do it in some form. However, while we revise and make corrections to our own standards of what seems right at the moment, when receiving feedback from another party, it may shift the way we think of our writing completely. Depending on how we react to the input and how it affects us emotionally, we may want to take it in and improve or maybe even ignore it. I will admit that sometimes receiving feedback isn’t always my favorite part of the revision process, as it challenges me and what I thought had made sense to me. However, we have to remember that our writing will not be received only by ourselves, the writer, but also by others. While your first version seemed enough and possibly “perfect” to your standards, when it is brought to your attention that it actually isn’t it may even hurt the ego. However, we must come to accept that better changes can probably be made. While at first, we may decide to ignore the feedback, eventually we should come around to intake it, not be so offensive towards it, listen, and understand it. And if you’re up for the challenge, actually act on it.
