The Effect Rhetoric Has on Reading

Would you like to understand an article in a deeper way than ever before? Reading rhetorically can benefit a reader in many ways. Reading without rhetoric in mind only allows the reader to touch the surface of the meaning behind the text. When you start to read rhetorically, you begin to analyze an article or book in a much deeper and more thorough way. Understanding rhetoric helps a reader to not only understand what the author is saying, but why the author is saying it. When you read an article, you have to ask yourself what the author is trying to insinuate through their writing. If you do research on the writer, learn about the writer’s opinions on the topic they are writing about or topics surrounding it, it will allow you to better understand what the author is trying to say, even when they are not saying it directly. To read rhetorically, you must also understand why the author is writing or, in other words, the purpose of the text. Using the research you have made about the author and what their motivation for writing might be will allow you to understand the text in a much more in depth manner.
