Fake It Till You Make It

According to James Gee, primary Discourse is “the Discourse we develop in our primary social area in life, such as at home.” A secondary Discourse is “what we develop once we begin to socialize outside of our homes and primary spaces.” Discourse itself is “the use of language to share ideas, insights, and information.” When surrounding oneself with different groups and social settings, one but behavior in a manner fitting towards the environment they’re in. Discourse can be presented in many different forms such as verbal communication, presentation, and listening. It is a form of communication whether it be in ideas, feelings, or by general physical presentation. Mush faking is a manner of presenting Discourse through current knowledge. When not aware of a specific social setting’s behavior, information, or form of communication, one may take the knowledge at hand, often what the viewer has before them, and adopts the presented manner onto oneself. This specific method of discourse is commonly used in the workforce and in large social settings. One must adapt to the environment which they are in, in order to prosper. It can be used for mutual gain or general communication. The longer one mush fakes, the more they come to understand the secondary Discourse of their current place of being and soon enough, they will be able to present it themselves.
