How Feedback and Revision can Help Your Writing

Writing is revision. Over the course of my writing career, I’ve come to realize that revision and getting feedback is the most common part of the writing process. Like Grauman said in her article, sometimes the feedback you receive can hurt your feelings. I like to think it’s a somehwat necessary part of the writing process. As a writer, I have gotten some harsh feedback but in the end, the feedback I received helped me improve my writing for the better and most of the time after making the revisions my work turns out better than it had before I made the revisions that were suggested when I was given feedback.

But that doesn’t mean that that was always the case. Other times, I couldn’t figure out how to revise my writing and it ended up not being as good as I’d hoped but, those failures were a part of learning how I could better improve my writing and it also helped me better understand how I write in those situations. When I’m given feedback but don’t know how to implement it into my writing, I tend to try my best to accomplish something similar so that I still did some sort of revision even if it’s not exactly what I would have thought about adding or remove from my work.
