How rhetoric helps all of us

Rhetoric helps us read because it allows us to comprehend how the text can be influenced by different circumstances surrounding it, like cultural or historical background. When reading rhetorically you are also able to spot any biases due to the critical thinking that rhetoric requires. Rhetoric also helps us read because it allows us to recognize various techniques that the author demonstrates and utilizes these in our own writing.

Reading rhetorically also teaches readers a multitude of things. It teaches readers how authors use language within the text. For example, due to rhetoric reading readers learn how to recognize different persuasion techniques, like ethos, pathos and logos. By being able to recognize these different techniques, it allows readers to obtain a deeper understanding of the text. By understanding the text, you can learn how to ask the proper questions about purpose and effectiveness. Both rhetoric and understanding the text deeply allows us to recognize the different techniques that the authors use in their writing and implement it in our own writing.

Rhetoric also helps readers to evaluate the credibility of different texts. Overall, rhetoric helps people read because it teaches readers to have a deeper understanding of the text. This, in turn, allows us to understand the different elements of a text like arguments, purpose, technique, and credibility.
