In “Blogging as Social Action: A Genre Analysis of the Weblog”, ithe authors state the following about blogs: “They are addressed to everyone and at the same time to no one. They seem to serve noimmediate practical purpose, yet increasing numbers of both writers and readers are devoting increasing amounts of time to them.” This shows how blog posts can be used to connect/relate to others through similar experiences or opinions on certain subject. Blog posts could also be used simply for enjoyment/entertainment purposes. These subjects can also improve someone’s writing technique because these experiences can potentially connect you with more experienced people/writers or at the very least, someone who can give you feedback on your work and ways to improve your writing techniques.
Blog posts can be used as genres because blog posts can have several different topics or references to other documents within them. In fact, I would say that’s how most discourse groups that revolve around blog posts tend to discuss, give feedback, share ideas or etc. Over the years, as technology has become more and more advanced, blog posts have developed to become a widespread source of communication which can be considered as a genre within disocurse communities that may use blog posts as their source of communication. In addition, they can be used to update yourself on the newest trends and/or pop culture. Which is another way to find a common interest or goal within a certain community.
