Genre & Lexis

Growing up, we were taught that genre is a classification of a writing. The newer formation of genre is to show the connection between the writers situation and solution. Texts are written to a specific scenario as a source of communication. Genre doesn’t focus on the text so much, but the situations around it. Having a situation in a genre gives the writing more meaning. This new form of genre makes it easier to understand patterns between situations, bringing new meaning to the writing. Discourse communities tend to use genre within their group. This is a form of communication used within the group to understand content and share ideas. Genres can be very flexible, being that social situations change. Lexis is another source of communication used within discourse communities, but on a more personal level. It’s deeper and goes on a deeper level of understanding on topics and ideas happening in the community. The main goal of lexis is to create deeper conversations and depict everyone’s idea to get a better understanding and continue furthering ideas and projects. These are all different and independent ideas, but they all share a common ground of working together to create the everyday materials we come to know.
