Writing Identity

In Villanueva’s “Writing Provides a Representation of Ideologies and Identities”, he suggests that every piece of writing reflects the writer’s personal experiences, beliefs, and standings on the reality of society. Essentially, ultimately creating an insight into their identity and perspectives of the world whether they realize it or not. Villanueva’s idea emphasizes that writing is not neutral, it expresses an individual’s view of the world and social standings. He also suggests that even though writers may try to take themselves out of their ideologies in their writing it creates dishonest writing. This leads into Villanueva presenting that as writers we should all be aware that we sometimes put on other personas when presenting arguments in our writing to try and redirect it from our own persona.

Personally, I agree with this statement because I feel that you can 100 percent see an individual’s identity in their writing. Even if two individuals with different stand points on a topic are given the same prompt and are told to write it without stating a positive or negative opinion about it, their identity and feelings of it still show through in the writing. You do not have to say your viewpoint of a topic in your writing it comes through with your word choice and sentence structures.
