Authority in Writing

To have authority in writing is to be knowledgeable of the thing you are writing about. To have authority in writing can be useful to get your point across. However, not every writer can have authority in writing. Writing scholars use the study of Janet and Roger to study how writers would go about on writing. This lingers the question, are you more like Roger or Janet? Personally, I think I can be both and the reason I say this is because it all depends on the topic I am writing about. If I am not well informed in my writing task, I would tend to take the safer way out on writing it like how Janet does. However, if I am knowledgeable in the writing task, I would take an approach similar to Roger’s where you can see more information and claims in relations to the writing task. That is why I believe that I do not fit in one of those styles, instead I believe it is depending on the writing topic. Even if I was given a writing task that I wasn’t well informed on, I do not think that briefly learning it before writing can give me the needed authority to write the text in a way Roger can. I also believe that that education level has a part to play when it comes to authority in writing because a freshman in college is most likely taking the safe approach in writing like Janet meanwhile a scholar who already has a degree can take more of a Roger-ish approach.
